I decided to upgrade my edge burnishing gear with a new Skirt Chaser and Slot Master burnisher from proedgeburnishers.com.

These are suppose to be for a drill press but I like to work them horizontally so put together a system to work that way. 1 HP, 1725 RPM, ODP motor and 1/2″ drill chuck from the Princess Auto warehouse bin, 5/8″ shaft x 1/2 thread adapter from Lee Valley and board to clamp it to my workmate.

With the drill chuck I can also change to a drum sander for edge sanding.

    First results are showing promise.

Very nice! I've been considering making one just haven't gotten around to it. How much horsepower do you think would be needed for an edge burnisher? I have a couple dryer motors I could possibly use.

I think at least a 1/2 HP would be best, especially for the Skirt Chaser size. You can really put a lot of pressure on it without loosing motor speed. No harm in trying less if you have the motors laying around. Make sure the the shaft is 5/8" for the shaft to thread adapter to install the drill chuck. A motor like I used has really good bearings on the shaft so it runs true even with side loading on it so no 'wobble". Another important consideration.
