Tempering question

    There's lots of things at play, however, it makes sense that an edge that is rolling is soft. And an edge that is chipping is hard. If the edge was rolling on some maple, it's pretty soft as in it never really hardened during the quench. If it was chipping, I'd look at the possibility that the tempering temperature being too low.
