In case some of you are looking for 304 stainless for making bolsters I found Metal Supermarkets have all stainless off-cuts for $2 a pound. I spend a whole $10 and picked up enough 304 to last for years. I also found some 1/8" round stock in 304 in the same bin. Your local store's stock may vary, but you can ask the guys for help in identifying the the different grades.

304 is a bit tougher to work with compared to 416 for sure, but superior for corrosion resistance. For me, being common and cheap as chips offsets the extra belt wear.
