Smoke from canola oil is a suspected carcinogen...as is a delicious barbecued steak. I give up.
Remember my blades are done in a salt pot, so when they are quenched in the oil there is a fine layer of salt on them which also may make a difference.
That being said I do believe you get a lot less of that black junk all over the blade as compared to other oils.
The other bonus is if you go to an automatic transmission repair shop with a container they will most likely give you used oil for free.
