Hi knifemakers: I am looking for information for a supplier to buy metal etching stencils. I used to have one in Saskatchewan but I guess he's not in business anymore. I've been away from knife making for some time now, but recently trying to start up again. The guy I had was Murray's Metal Marking . Appreciate any help. Thanks, Robert Legacy
Depending on your budget....you can check this site that I found, I know it sounds like a info martial product...but he also sells the uv stencil kit... planning on getting the knife maker kit in the new year. http://www.etch-o-matic.com/index.html
I cant speak highly enough of Ernie Grospitch at Blue Lightning Stencils. Very friendly, does great work, and very speedy too. I just got my last ones from him a week or so ago. Ordering was super simple, he suggested a few minor changes to improve my stencil, and in no time they were in my mail box. i believe it was $60 USD shipped, and is typically 10 stencils. I have done a dozen blades on this stencil so far and its still marking nice and clear.
Thanks guys. Much appreciated. Looking into it. Tried a couple utube versions, but it messed up my project a little. I think my stencils are too old. I did like the super kit.
Sorry to hijack this Thread, but what do you guys use to etch (the machine) I'm looking to something like this :
Guillaume I am also looking at a bench-top power supply to do my etching, or an older car battery charger that's not automatically governed like the new digital ones. To be honest I have no idea why the Personalizer and Personalizer Plus are so damn expensive considering what they are! I think the route I am going is a bench top power supply like that, and if I am going to drop any coin it will be on a vinyl cutter so I can make and etch unique/ custom designs.
The DC only supply is okay for etching. If you want a nice black mark you want a little AC to finish off. My Poor Man's etcher has both DC and AC and works remarkably well for under $20. Dan
I am going to try Dan's, not the best when it comes to wiring, but I'll give it a go! Hope I can find the right kind of adapter! Failing that, this one should work right? And bare in mind yes it has $200 price tag, but the Personalizer-Plus is $300+ U.S. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0002DVEZA/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_25?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB Ideal AC/DC power supply for your school lab It has a DC output (UN-regulated, UN-filtered) from 0-30 volts at up to 5 amps It has an AC output (UN-regulated, UN-filtered) of 0-40V at up to 5 amps
Ordered my stencils from Ernie today. He's incredibly fast! Emailed him this morning with a request and heard back from him less than 2 hours later with 2 renderings! Order came to 60.00.
Good to know...I thought about this too, for some reason when I went to Ernie's website, to me it had the look of someone not operating anymore! I will email him...but first I need to design one
Hahahahaha!!! I thought the same! At least his website isn't still "Under Construction..." I gave Ernie my logo and he generated 2 images for me faster than fast! I have an image for the blade and another for the belt clip.
I had 2 sets of stencils made by Ernie, also spoke with him on the phone, was good to talk to. I use his solution recipe for etching. I´ve had 2 other sets made by TUStech.com, the stencil material looks identical but Ernie´s are a little bit thicker, which I like, and don´t discolour while etching. The discolouration cleans off with soap and water but when it first happened I was scared to see what the etching result was going to be, luckily it came out just fine. Tomorrow I´ll be etching my 1st blade using 154cpm, going to test using a piece of scrap cutting first.
