Just run a #6 3-wire and slap a 50amp sub panel in that bad boy with no breaker higher than 1.7 meters off the ground. That's all that's required of the electrical code. That will cover your lathe, lights, plugs welder etc... No problem.
Thanks Steve. I'll be looking into it more hopefully in a few weeks. I will probably get someone to hook it up for me only because I have never really worked with 220v. I will be running the wiring myself. Right now it really sucks moving the extension cord to every machine I go to.
I have a bit of a setback. I was working on my handle and pomel on the lathe. I was sanding it and just about done when I did the famous "just a bit more". The bit cought and moved it in the chuck. At first I thought I got off lucky with just a gouge in the pomel but then I realized the handle cracked. I guess I will have to see what's next tomorrow.
Bummer Icho, you'll get it Have you ever noticed after all the blades we make everyone always has hiccups with the KITH builds? But they always seem to turn out for the better in the end. I changed my guard design and couldn't imagine it having the original now.... Can't wait to see pics!!!
Well even though the official dead line has come and gone I am not giving up. My blade just needs some more hand work which would have been done but I am waiting for solder to come in since I have misplaced the solder I bought a while back. I never want to move again!...... unless the house has a bigger work shop and is out in the country. Lol. Another little problem I ran into is that a part of my tang broke off. I pushed a bit hard when grinding and the vibration of a 36gr ceramic belt.... I should have known better. I will have to get the threaded rod brazed on. So since we did pass the deadline does this mean the kith is no longer. Steve. You finished yours and if there is anyone else that is almost done maby we can still save it.
Looking forward to it Icho...I'm not to worried about the deadline if people need some time I don't mind. Looking forward to seeing some sweet blades!!!
I'm in the same boat icho, I'm close but not finished. But I'm still finishing it. But I'm definately out of commission for the next couple weeks. Just finished the drive out to Nova Scotia. Drive was a little smoother without 2 kids strapped in for 18 plus hours.
Icho, at a quick glance it sounds think you Steve, Ryan and Alexander may be in the kith still at this point.........
I've got a stretch of days to work after I get back from the coast. Then it's up to the farm for Christmas..... So it will mean more time at the forge in the evenings I hope to have everything all set for the heat treat when I get back up then finish up the handle. Nice thing is I should be able to get everything started in the handle before the heat treat then do a clean up and assemble. Here's hoping for no major hiccups in the process.
Good to hear Ryan. Can't wait to see pics. Mine is sitting on the counter partially assembled. I need my solder! I ordered it yesterday from jantz. I hope it will be in Detroit for friday night or I will have to wait till at least Monday to pick it up. I may post a quick pic of where I'm at a bit later.
I just got in from the garage. I hung a light over the lathe so I can see what I'm doing. That's it for the night but I figured I'd post a pic of my seax. It is a real quick and dirty pic but here it is so far. [/IMG] It is just lightly screwed together and the handle and spacers still are very rough, square and uneven blocks. I will hand finish the blade in the next couple days. I hope I get my solder by then.
Thanks Steve. I think i'm really liking hidden tangs with a pommel. This is my first one and it is pretty easy now that I have my lathe with a milling attachment.
