Thanks Dan. Padauk is correct. The other is died and stabilized redwood burl. Unfortunately it looks like there is going to be a change of plans. I had everything cleaned and layed out. I started getting it together but i was using 5min epoxy and ran out of time. It looks like there is gaps. I think I will be throwing out the new 5min epoxy I accidentally ordered a while back so I'm not tempted to try using it again. Now I'm grumpy and going to bed. Tomorrow is a new day.
After a bit of bad luck and tearing off the original handle material i was able to make some progress. I made up a couple new scales out of paduk and a couple pieces of ebony. The original handle had the died redwood burl but I don't have any left. Here it is with just a minimum clean up on the pelt grinder.
I think that's going to look awesome when it's all shaped and polished up. Were you going to do a thong tube in the back piece of ebony? Dan
There is no ebony on the back. Here is a picture at a different angle. Because it is a bushcraft knife I figured there is a good chance of using a stick or something to hammer the end of it so i didn't want the handle material to extend all the way to the end. I also have extra holes so it can be secured to a stick and be used as a spere if necessary.
Ah ok gotcha. I saw the shaped piece with the epoxy on it, in the upper of the photo. I was thinking that may be going on the tail end. Dan
