I have always being a diy'er, thanks to my grandfather and father. Seems every commercial knife I handled was never quite what I was looking for. I hunt and fish, so purpose built blades for these pursuits interest me.

I am just finishing up my 2nd knife now as I discover your forum here. I did a lot of web searching for info. Started with a coffee can gas forge and a 1x30 belt grinder, hand files and a lot of hand sanding... I think I feel the bug taking hold as I am now planning a 2x72 DIY Grinder build... and a larger forge.

I owe a big thank you to Dan Comeau. Your content has given me inspiration and confidence. My first knife was a full tang skinner based upon your DS3 template. The next one is a mushroom foraging hawkbill with a hidden tang in big leaf maple burl handle. Yes, this one was a bit of a challenge for a second knife...

Made more than a few mistakes on the first one... a few less on the second one.

Planning on a big bowie and some ultralight backpacking blades next...

    Glad to be here,
    Steve
