Hi all, I just recently got bit by the creative bug while customizing some pre-made blades for the kids, and now I'm looking to dive a little deeper. My wife is absolutely thrilled that I'm picking up another hobby that will require more tools and garage floor space ;)

Anyway, glad to be here, hoping to learn a lot!

    Welcome to the forum.

You should be fine. Just remind your wife the more time you spend out in the garage with your tools, the less time you spend irritating her. Works for me.

Welcome On board! Not sure if you are going the forge route or stock removal? Plenty of guys here forge and can help you, if it’s stock removal and you want to start slow and keep the wife happy at the same time ( also a cool project with the kids) check out this video, it’s been duplicated many times, but I am pretty sure Aaron Gough’s video is the original.

Good way to start before running out and buying a grinder! He’s got a good video on 01 heat treatment too.

    Cheers,

    Griff

Thanks for the welcome, everyone :)
I've got my hands on some steel and I've spent a good deal of time staring at it, but I haven't started any stock removal yet. Forging, if it's in my future, feels like a long way off. So far all I've actually done is assemble kit knives out of pre-made blanks, and I'm still feeling pretty challenged by trying to get a handle to look nice. Baby steps, I guess, lol ;)
