Has anybody checked out the ameribrade grinders from california......I recently purchased 2 of these grinders for my shop and i would like to reccomend them to anyone lookng for a good grinder.....just before the economy went south and the canadian dollar dropped to 70 cents i got the 2 hp leesson motor with the genesis speed control with tool rest...flat platen.....rotary platen.....10 in contact wheel...small wheel attachment with 4 different wheel sizes for $3600 canadian delivered all taxes and freight in......compared to my burr king with 1 1/2 hp motor with flat platen and 10 inch wheel at just under $7000 ......the quality and value of the ameribrade is top drawer.....i am extremely happy with them.....they are built to take the abuse of students learning to grind.

I looked at those when looking for a second grinder, always liked them, just in the end couldn’t justify the cost x conversion x shipping x import taxes on any U.S made grinder, a shame as I liked a lot of them and had been down that route with My AMK 72.

I only got that because I had an American neighbour that drove it up here for me! Since we are on the subject of grinders, and some passers by might be looking but not know all brands, here’s a shortlist.

    U.S brands

    Ameribrade
    OBM
    Reeder Products Inc
    Brodbeck Ironworks (new)
    AMK
    Northridge Tool
    KMG
    Blackfox knifeworks

In Canada so far we have

    Vashti Grinders
    Nexus Grinders
and Toronto Blacksmith now has a grinder.

I finally went with the Canadian Nexus grinder, and sourced a WEG 2hp and KBAC 27-D VFD myself for around $1500 taxes in Canadian. The reason being was I all ready had an AMK 72 and had a disc grinder project going, which I finally put together with a KBAC-24 D and the Neilson magnetic hub for quick change flat disc and 1 degree bevel disc (I’ll make a post on my disk grinder shortly).

My dream grinder is a U.S built Reeder Grinder. That family know how to build a good product and their accessory list is awesome!

    Enjoy those Ameribrades TMR!

It's great to see there's a number grinder makers now here in Canada. When I started making knives BEE was the only Canadian in the game.

Same here. The Bee got me going but it was unfortunate they didn't give much thought to attachments. That small wheel setup kills me and I haven't been able to figure out how to set it up for a surface grinder. If anybody has any ideas can you let me know?

    HI Dan
Thanks for the thought. We're fine - our area is higher and luckily not affected. Lots of friends were though but they won't know the extent till they get back in. Amazing how fast it happened.

Good to hear Dave. Fort Mac has had its share of tough times in the past four years.
