I would be in for a september start with december end date.
You could give me a week and I would still be in (stupid OCD...LOL!) but December for Christmas sounds like a good idea if it works for everyone
I feel the same way Steve. I just wouldn't sleep for a couple days. Lol
Funny, I've been wanting to try a straight razor. but I'll be a sucker for almost anything but a more complex folder.
Lol nono I'd make a fresh one for sure.
I don't think a straight razor would be very practical. Not that I wouldn't want to make one but that's a whole new can of worms from knife making. And I don't know if I'm the only one but I don't have a 5-6" contact wheel or any contact wheel for that matter.
I'm game for anything but the razor lol. Unless a razor shaped friction folder is ok?
Isn't that just about what a straight razor is..... I don't have anything for hollow grinding yet. I might have to make something. Could they be made with a very thin flat grind?
I've been lookng into trying a straight razor for a couple weeks now. My next batch of blades I will try one. From what I've seen they go from a small radius (I don't remember how small though) feather edge all the way to flat grind. We could be opening up a can of worms though.... but i'd do it. I just thought i'd throw it out there.
I don't think you can get a fine enough edge with a flat grind but not sure. Every razor I have ever seen has been an aggressive hollow grind. I'm certainly not an expert on them though. I believe they also require very precise heat treating and basically have to be ground after hardening since the profile most often will not survive the temps without extreme warp. If you want to see some insanely nice custom straight razors check out llyod Richard harner III, also known as butch. His work is outstanding.
...........how about a 'Loveless' anything goes
...........how about a "Ragnar Lothbrok" anything viking'ish'
Something viking'ish would be a nice challenge!!!
talk about OCD-now i want to build a viking type straight razor with a loveless influence that i can use as an ulu-think someone better pick quick
hahahaha lol !!!
How about a straight razor shaped friction folder?
your killin me man !!
Just picked up my shipment of material. 9 feet of steel, 5 feet of pin stock, and a dozen sets of handle material. BRING IT ON!! Lol
Right on Grayzer!
Rob, you have to admit a straight razor shaped blade would be pretty cool
Sounds like you are loaded up and ready to go Grayzer. Viking theme leaves a lot to choose from.
I've been googlin trying to come up with some more ideas. I was checking out which nations have distinctive knives and I came across the Chilean Corvo. It's different, funky and kind of cool. Check it out.
